Reading

We love stories and reading!!

At New Windsor School our vision is to grow confident learners together:

One of our favourite books to read in Room 1 is Smiley Shark by Ruth Galloway.
Today the children had a turn at re telling the story to their friends.
They each picked a page to read from the story.

As you can see from our photos the children were very enthusiastic when it came to sharing their favourite page from the book.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Our Lion Dance for the New Year.

As part of our study into Chinese New Year we watched last years Lantern Festival on You Tube.
We made our own Lion to participate in a dance.

We had fun taking turns being the lion.

We also had fun playing in the band.

Happy New Year!!

Making healthy smoothies

Working together!

Collaboration: Room 1
As part of our discussion on healthy food last week we got into discussions around healthy drinks.  So we decided to make one for us to have at school.  Today was the day!  Prisha and Oliver helped me to write the number of ingredients that we had to make our smoothies.  We also made a list and counted how many children we had in order to make sure that we had enough cups and smoothies for everyone.

The children helped me to choose the number on the blender that would best mix up our smoothie.  We kept checking to see the mixture was mixed together enough. We did not want any lumps.
The best part of making our smoothies was trying the finished product!

Math shapes in our playground

Geometry is all around us!!

This week we have been learning about shapes. This morning we went outside in our playground to see what the children could find.
We found our stepping swinging steps are circles as are our swinging bars.

Even our platforms are made of shapes.  We have lots of squares and rectangles everywhere!!

Science and discovering our environment

Exploring the living world is about living things and they way the interact with each other and our environment.

This afternoon as part of our further exploration of our school environment we went into our garden.
We found many different kinds of plants.  We were able to pick some mint and parsley.  We found when we crushed them between our fingers they smelled like familiar things to us.  George said the mint smelled like bubble gum.  We look forward to visiting our garden again.  I wonder what we will find next time?
