Together the children can accomplish anything!

This week's art inspiration and creations came from our story books. It was fantastic to see how well they can work together towards a common goal.

Life Education Trust

Today was our first visit to the Life Education Trust van. The children were very excited to see meet Harold. We learned that the human body needs: water, food, and oxygen. Our body uses food for energy. We are excited for our next visit with Harold.

This term one of our learning topics is a focus on science. Yesterday we had a visit from science in a van. This was an exciting event for the children. Today we tried our own experiments in class. It was lots of fun. We look forward to exploring more science this term!

Keeping ourselves safe

This term we have been learning about keeping ourselves safe. This week we had a visit from Constable Holly she talked to us about good touch and bad touch.

Exploring Toys and Time

We have been looking at vintage games/toys, time and differences/similarities from around the world. Some of the class have been sharing toys from their families. We are looking forward to our upcoming trip to Motat.

Exploration of Measurement and Patterns

This week in math we have been exploring repeating patterns and measurement. We have been working individually and in small groups.  Everyone contributed to a class pattern that went the length of our room.

Celebrating Book Week

This week we celebrated Book Week and what an exciting week it was.  We had authors and illustrators visit our school. We wrote our own stories in class. We participated in our school's book parade. We read and acted out many different stories.

Math with our Buddies

On Friday our Buddies helped with our math lesson on numbers and counting. They extended our knowledge on writing and counting. 

Welcome to term 3

This week was the first week back after the term break.  The children were very excited to renew their friendships and meet the new children in our class.
We had a fun week of learning!

On Friday we hosted assembly. The children shared a dance, some songs and their artwork.

Technology and Visual Art

Our Minion Story

 This term we have been learning about technology.  We know that technology is human made and is made for a purpose.

During the term we  have explored our own imagination and creativity through drawing and writing about our idea's for new technology.

As part of a school wide focus to beautify and re use resources in our school we decided to make a planter to make our school fun and playful. Our theme for our planter was something dear to the children's heart the movie "Despicable Me" (our rainy day lunch time movie) and our favourite characters the Minions.

We explored how we would make our Minion. What  shapes and colours did we need. Would our Minion have one eye or two?

We found pictures of tyre Minions on Pinterest.  We had tyres we could use at school.

We worked as a team and cleaned then painted our tyres.

Once our Minion was finished we attached the eyes then planted our plant.


Our Minion was finished today!!
The only thing to do now is name our Minion.
Thank you to everyone who helped and those who donated the soil.

Taekwondo skills

Amazing strength!!!

This term our children have been attending Taekwondo lessons in the hall. They have learned some amazing new skills and some discipline in the sport. Tuesday was our last class and the children learned how to break a board in two.

Buddy Time

In our art experience today we worked with our buddies with dye, white paper and white crayons.

Wow... our drawings we made disappeared until the dye was applied to the paper. 

Science- we are learning to explore!

Working together!

This week we have been getting to know the new members of the class.

We have enjoyed working together in our play based discovery time in the afternoons. One of the items we enjoy the most is playing with our brain box.

We work as a team to put together science experiments.

We use our number knowledge to help build our circuits.

It is exciting to see if our circuits will work or if we have to try again.

The children like to try experiments with the siren to see what music/sound it will make.

School Performance

Our Samoan Sasa

On the last day of term one, we along with the rest of the school performed in our special Pacific assembly. 

The performance showcased some of our learning about pacific cultures. For us and our buddy class we got to show our Samoan Sasa. The children were amazing in the performance. They remembered each of the choreographed moves and the Samoan words. 

Give it a go swimming...

This afternoon we took part in New Windsor School "Give it a go competition".  I was so proud of my class because of their courage in trying new skills under competition conditions. Everyone took part in their own way either supporting their friends or competing. Well done everyone!

Our Native Tree Drawings

This morning we explored our school and had a go at sketching our beautiful native trees. This was the first time we have tried our hand at sketching and I think the children had fun trying a different technique for drawing.
